Links from the Switched on "The Gang Issue" issue
Here are some places on the web that may be interesting. Switched-On makes no claim that any of these people have the remotest idea what they're talking about.
Streetgangs.com
I found out some really strange things on this site. Did you know a gang can get sued? Seriously. Yes, we all know you can get shot, but sued? Crazy. Only in America.
A Book: Monster: The Autobiography of an L.A. Gang Member
This is interesting. It's almost like you don't even have to join a gang yourself. All you have to do is read about this guy's experiences and learn from them. I did. Today, this guy dedicates himself to ending gang violence. And doing book tours.
GangOutreach
This is a faith based organization that tries to help people figure out how to prevent gang violence. It's award winning and multi-racial, which is way better than those non-awarding single-racial outreach programs. Yes, it is. They'll even explain how to handle bad tattoo removal.
National Youth Violence Prevention's gang resource center.
There are more than 24,500 different youth gangs around the country, and more than 772,500 teens and young adults are members of gangs. Wow. This website talks about youth violence and how to prevent it and has tips on what you can do about the gang problem. You, that's right. You.
Great
Gang resistance education and training- the website. This has great pictures of policemen posing with youths. They also stayed away from gang-related colors so it's all in green and yellow. Stab me in the eyes.
